Grant Overview
Addressing Dropout Rates through Engagement
Common Barriers to Funding Eligibility
High-needs schools looking to improve student retention through educational field trips often encounter several barriers when applying for funding. One prevalent obstacle is the lack of compliance with stipulated guidelines, which typically require a demonstrated link between proposed activities and measurable outcomes related to student engagement and attendance. Schools with a history of low engagement or poor attendance rates may find themselves at a disadvantage when applying.
Compliance Traps and Audit Risks
In addition to eligibility barriers, schools must navigate complex compliance requirements, including documentation for all funded activities. Failure to maintain accurate records of student attendance, engagement metrics, and overall trip outcomes can result in audit discrepancies. Schools that have been flagged for inconsistent reporting may face additional scrutiny in future funding applications, further complicating their ability to secure financial support.
What Will Not Be Funded?
Funding is explicitly designed for educational field trips aimed at enriching student learning experiences; therefore, it will not support general operational costs, such as textbooks, school supplies, or facilities maintenance. For example, a request for funding to purchase classroom supplies under the guise of supporting educational trips would be disqualified. Additionally, trips that do not clearly align with curriculum goals or fail to provide enriching experiences will also be ineligible.
Disqualification Scenarios
Common disqualification scenarios include failure to demonstrate prior successful outcomes related to similar initiatives, or a lack of involvement from the local community or industry partners, which is often a requirement for funding approval. Schools that do not actively engage students in planning or reflect ethical educational practices in their applications may also find themselves excluded from receiving funds.
